The Mochachos Chicken Village concept was conceived in 1993 and the first store was opened in early 1994. Originally known as Mochachos Steak Villages, it was one of the first outlets in South Africa to offer Mexican Dishes. The product offering is designed to address a market niche created by the demand from South African consumers for healthy yet exotic food. Chief Executive Officer of Mochachos Franchise Management (Pty) Ltd, Anthony Karafilakis, has 31 years experience in the retail food industry. Anthony acquired the rights and registered trademarks of the Mochachos Chicken Village brand in 1995. Since then he has added the following brands to the stable; Skippers Fish & Chips, Max Frango’s, Café Bacini’s, Baci Express and Marhaba Indian Cuisine.
The concept under the spotlight
The Mochachos Chicken Village concept is based on “Mexican Flavoured Flame Grilled Chicken” combined with a specialised Mexican Foods menu. The Mochachos menu incorporates heart healthy meals approved by the Heart Foundation of South Africa. Selected Mochachos Chicken Village outlets also carry a Halaal certification, issued by the South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA).

Mochachos serves Mexican-flavoured flame grilled chicken combined with a special blend of dry herbs and spices and a variety of traditional Mexican dishes, including fajitas, burritos and quesadillas. The wide variety of meals offered may all be ordered in the following flavours; Lemon and Herb, Mild, Hot, Extra Hot and Dynamite.
Mochachos Chicken Villages cater for discerning diners who enjoy good food and a healthy lifestyle and fall in the middle to upper income brackets.

Key factors for consideration in the site selection process are high visibility and high foot traffic counts. Sites must be approved by the franchisor.

Mochachos offers its franchisees extensive initial training with practical tuition conducted in-house and theoretical courses run at head office. The franchisor also provides ongoing training to the franchisee and their staff.
